Kathryn Albertson Park
Kathryn Albertson Park, near Downtown Boise, is a tranquil 41-acre park, full of paths, ponds and silence, making it a haven for wildlife and humans alike.
Namesake/History
Kathryn and grocery store founder Joe Albertson opened the first Albertsons food center in 1939. Kathryn was very involved in the Albertsons business and Boise community. The Albertsons purchased this land below their residence in the late 70s with the intention to donate it as a public park. Kathryn envisioned a natural park that would become a refuge for local animals and migratory birds. In 1989, Kathryn Albertson Park was dedicated.
This park is one of many in what has become known as the “Ribbon of Jewels”. The Ribbon of Jewels refers to a string of parks along the Boise River Greenbelt named after some of Boise’s finest female civic leaders.
