Lovely Hollow Farm
A scenic drive from Boise to Caldwell left us chuckling as we take a left onto Chicken Dinner Rd just minutes away from Lovely Hollow Flower Farm. It was August 5th, the first day of the flower picking season, and it is an optimum temperature for a summer day. There were enough clouds to keep the sun off our backs and temperature just right for short sleeves or a dress.
Here are the hours for Lovely Hollow Farm so you can plan accordingly
Passing corn fields and farms, we unsuccessfully try to identify some unknown plants as they grow on acres of land. As we turn in, we are some of the first at Lovely Hollow Flower Farm, and to our surprise, they have the Perking Spot Coffee truck as well as a sweets truck. Taylor, my wife, in hand, I grab some coffee and we purchase a half gallon of flowers. Which, to be frank, was probably too much. We spent the better part of two hours picking flowers, taking pictures, and hanging out with the butterflies.
Though Lovely Hollow Flower Farm may seem small, you can spend hours rummaging through the rows of poppies, sunflowers, fillers, dandelions, and so so much more. When we purchased our half gallon and grabbed the provided scissors, we were recommended to cut the flowers about the length of your elbow to the tip of your fingers, you can always cut them shorter later. When we started cutting our flowers, we mistakenly didn’t have a plan in mind. Start thinking of a plan as soon as you find your favorite flower to pick. If you want to get fancy, see this article on the flower color wheel.
Pro Tip: If you grab a half gallon you will more than likely have enough flowers for at least two arrangements
Setting out your Bouquet
When adding your flowers to your vases (or makeshift vases), if you don’t already have flower food, add ~3 tablespoons of sugar, as flower food & ~2 tablespoons of vinegar to prevent bacterial growth. Finally, cut the ends of your flowers at an angle so they have the best chance of getting their nutrients.
